Getting Started Downloading and Using Skype
It's easy to get started. Download Skype from their website here. While the built-in microphone and speakers on you computer can be used, it is worthwhile to purchase a headset/microphone combination for better quality. Good headphone/microphone headsets are available for less than $20.00. If the video call option will be used, a webcam is required. They are readily available at a reasonable cost.
Now that the program has been downloaded, choose a Skype username. This will also become the user's Skype phone number that other uses to call each other. Next add other users to the call list. If it is not known, utilize the search window to find it. Simple to Use
To make a call, select the party to be reached and open their profile card. Then click on the “Call” button. The recipients computer at the other end will “ring.” When a phone call is received, the audible “ring” is heard and caller ID identifies the caller. To answer click on the “Answer” button. If the recipient doesn't answer, the caller can leave a text message. The next time Skype is opened, the program tells them whose call they have missed.
